Part of being a sculptor means you always have those left over bits of materials - not me! Having trained under Walter Keeler and Mo Jupp whilst doing my Ceramics Degree It was instilled into me that form and function are one in the same. Those left over bits are becoming more important to me in their use as form and functional pieces! Working with storm fallen or unwanted timbers I have created a series of bowls, their unique and rustic shape are the outcome of the timbers organic twists and turns. It is the wood that informs me where i need to carve. I use a technique from Japan to seal the timber called ‘Yakisugi’, this involves burning the surface using the natural oils inside to create a barrier - it protects from the elements and stops wood munching insects from having a feast on your prized possession! I finish the bowls in natural linseed oil so they are food safe. They would look great adorning your home, or office. If you see one you like please contact me, if you would like to commission a certain size I can also do this. Prices range from £65 - £135 - I may have more available on my Phoenix Enviromental Creations Instagram page - Click here to view or on the link below to contact me.
